Billionaire Home Depot (HD) co-founder Ken Langone has a message for those who are bearish on capitalism: start a business.
“Go work for a company – learn all the basics of that company and then go start your own business in that company’s business,” Langone said. “Look at Home Depot – we have 400,000 people gainfully employed, well paid with various programs that given them the opportunity to accumulate an estate – to accumulate an asset – that’s how it’s supposed to work and it does work – just give it a chance.”
Langone’s book is titled I Love Capitalism!
Meanwhile Langone said we need more business leaders running for political office.
“I think one of the greatest things to happen because of Trump’s presidency is for a lot of people to say, he did it — I can do it,” Langone told us. “I think Howard Schultz, Jamie Dimon – these people haven’t said they’re going to do it – Mike Bloomberg – I can go on down a list of all of these very successful business people who have demonstrated an ability to lead and who understand the importance of capitalism.”
On Monday, Starbucks (SBUX) executive chairman Howard Schultz announced plans to step aside, fueling speculation of a political future.
